Witch School

Dead man’s fingers in the graveyard

Calling all young witches and wizards!
Put your young visitors through their paces with our witch school. Once they pass their training, they qualify as a witch or wizard and will receive their witch mark branded on their hand. Described by one historic site, as one of the best Halloween displays they’d ever had. It’s great fun for all the family and everyone loves collecting the gruesome ingredients for their spells.

Young witches and warlocks are given a pointy hat to make them feel more the part. We start by getting them to give their best witch stares and cackles. Then they’ll all be given an ingredient scroll to summon a borrowed familiar. They’ll need to gather such spooky ingredients as worms, maggots, eyeballs, bones and bat wings to mix up a potion to summon a familiar. After a bit of hand waving and spell chanting, they’ll entice their borrowed familiar from the sack of summoning. It could be anything: a cat, bat, dog, hare, toad, rat, etc. We’ll then test their flying skills. Each young witch or wizard will be lent a broom so that they can demonstrate their technique. They must carefully balance their familiars whilst traversing the tricky obstacle course. After returning their familiar, they’ll receive their witches qualification stamp and return to their proud parents. We’ll meet them at the next full moon!

A fun and active display to wear the little ones out and give them a truly memorable day. Each display lasts about 20-30 minutes and can be run for up to 20 at a time. It’s a great timetabled event. Fun for all the family.

Can be run in conjunction with our 17th century witch trials or our folklore museum. Can be run for medieval, 17th or 19th century events.
