Below is a list of all the museums and historic sites we’ll be attending this year in addition to all our school work:

March/April
30 March – 2 April – Wrest Park, Beds – Come along this Easter and play with some Victorian toys & games.  You can also find out about the invention of photography and how this led up to the first movies at the very end of the 19th century. There are lots of optical toys to play with such as zoetropes, 3D stereoscopes, thaumotropes and much, much more.  Have a go at making your own thaumotrope.  EH.

3 April – Colchester Castle, Essex – Come join us at the castle for this medieval event.  Watch Sir Thomas as he is armed for battle and learn about the different medieval weapons. Try on some armour for yourself or hold a sword at this one day event.  Colchester Council.

May/June
27 May – 1 June – Wrest Park, Beds – WW1 Assault Course, rifle drill and WW1 medicine.  Have a go at our assault course or be put through your paces in our rifle drill.  Help the busy nurse by winding bandages and learning how to bandage.  Learn what it was like for soldiers and nurses during the great war, what were the diseases and treatments. Find out at this former WW1 hospital and country house.  EH

4-5 June – Carlisle Castle –  A special WW1 event for schools at this beautiful 12th c castle.  We will be running our WW1 nursing display and some Tommy (soldier) rifle drilling.  Learn about the illnesses that soldiers would have to face and how the nurses might help.  EH

18 – 22 June – Bodiam Castle, East Sussex – Medieval week for schools.  Would you like to visit Bodiam Castle, why not make your students visit even more special by visiting Happening History at the castle.  All week we will be running displays on medieval life.  Students can learn about clothing, food, marriage, try on armour, hold a weapon or learn about medieval surgery.  Booking is essential so please contact the castle directly or we’d be happy to pass on your details. 28-29 – Dover Castle, Kent – Plagues and punishments – Come and learn some gruesome history. What was it like to be put on trial for your crimes in medieval times.  EH

August
14-16 – Carisbrooke Castle, IOW – Join us for the annual medieval joust event.  There’ll be jousts, jesters, songs and much more. EH

21-23 – Carisbrooke Castle, IOW – Join us for the 2nd week of the annual medieval joust event.  There’ll be jousts, jesters, and jolly japes! EH

25-27 – Dover Castle, Kent – Join us for the grand joust.  We’ll be running medieval trials and there’ll be a chance to try on some of our sumptuous medieval clothes. Make your little lads feel like lords and your young ladies like princesses.  There are clothes to fit all sizes.  EH
